Review Policy

Hello! I love getting contacted about review copies, and am honored that you want me to read your book. I have a few guidelines and criteria about what books I can accept, because sadly, there are other obligations I must fulfill in life that limit my reading time. Please note that I am based in northern Italy, but accept books only in English. Read on to see if your book is a good fit for me, and if so, what the process will look like!

  • What types of books am I willing to consider?

I accept only YA or (occasionally) middle grade books, and all genres except horror, erotica, sci-fi, and nonfiction. I will read nothing with smut in it. My preference is for fantasy (especially fairy tale retellings), contemporary romance, and mysteries.

Here is a list of books I especially enjoyed within my favorite genres, to give a general idea of my taste:

FANTASY

- The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

- The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni

- These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

- Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

- Fable by Adrienne Young

- Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

ROMANCE

- Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

- Counting Down With You by Tashie Bhuyian

- Better than the Movies by Lynn Painter

- Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon

- My Mechanical Romance by Alexene Farol Follmuth

MYSTERY

- A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

- Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

- Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

- The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

  • What formats do I accept?

I accept both physical and digital books, however, I prefer physical. I'm also a bookstagrammer, and hardcopies are much easier to take aesthetically pleasing photos of. I do all my e-reading on a Kindle, therefore any digital books must be in .epub or .pdf format. They can be emailed to me directly at abookwormslifeblog[at]gmail[dot]com or sent to me through my NetGalley (linked to the same email).

  • What is my general review process?

I cannot completely guarantee that I will read and review the book before its publication date; however, I do give ARCs priority over other books on my TBR. If there is a specific deadline you need the review post by, please mention it in your request message and we can work something out.

My standard process for where I will promote the book if I enjoy it:

- blog post (including all elements in below list)

- bookstagram post (including photo, quote, review, and rating)

- NetGalley feedback (if applicable)

- Goodreads review

I will always provide feedback in some way, shape of form for any book sent to me. However, if I feel that the content is problematic in any way or I simply do not have very much to say about it, I reserve the right to not post about it on my blog. The feedback may come in an email, or on social media only. My reviews will be completely honest; if I did not enjoy it but read the entire thing and have constructive criticism, I will go ahead and post anyway (respectfully, of course). Please note that I am always reviewing the book itself, and not the author.

All my review blog posts include:

- an artful photo taken by myself clearly featuring the cover

- disclaimer at the top thanking the publisher for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review

- my favorite quote from the book

- genre

- rating (1-5 scale)

- current number of books in series (if applicable)

- tropes

- a song I associate with the book

- publisher synopsis

- my review

- Goodreads link to the book

All my reviews are normally spoiler-free. However, in the rare case I do include them, they will be clearly tagged in order for them to be easily avoidable.

  • What to include in your request for my review

- book summary

- release date

- what format you'd be sending

- if applicable, time frame in which you expect the review

- state that you have read and agreed to my review policy

- any other relevant information (for a stronger case, explain why you think my blog is a good fit for your book)
